At the heart of SMIS-English is a meticulously crafted curriculum designed to build a strong and unwavering foundation in English for every child. By combining systematic learning with trusted Oxford materials with creative hands-on activities, we develop vocabulary, grammar, listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in a fun and meaningful way. By balancing academic learning with practical use of English, children learn English with purpose and confidence.

Literacy (reading and writing) is at the heart of every class. In addition to a program that progressively develops phonics, reading comprehension, reading fluency, and writing skills, it is designed to naturally incorporate essential elements of the Eiken English proficiency test. Teachers guide students to a deeper understanding of the material covered in each unit and demonstrate how to use English in real-world situations through short videos, reading materials, writing tasks, arts and crafts, and various activities.
Reading is a crucial pillar of the curriculum. Each week, children can choose two age- and level-appropriate books from the St. Michael’s International School library to read at home. With access to thousands of books, children discover the joy of reading and naturally develop the literacy skills that underpin their overall learning. Furthermore, weekly review materials for homework allow for continued improvement of their English skills outside of class.
